With the construction of the Lernhaus (Learning House), we have implemented an innovative school concept together with the city of Osterholz-Scharmbeck and KSG architects. Entrusted to spatial graphics and furniture layout, we have created vital and inspiring workrooms with a high quality of stay, a clear orientation system, and a high degree of flexibility in the new building.
The orientation system received the German Design Award 2016 in the category »Excellent Communications Design – Signage and Wayfinding«.
The large and open learning landscapes as well as the attractive seating areas in the hallways invite you to linger and learn. All areas are designed with the possibility to also work in small groups outside the learning landscape.
The furniture is a mix of already existing and specially designed furniture, matching with the new colour scheme of the school. The mentor tables are arranged in the middle so that the learner is always close to the mentor.
The innovative educational concept is also reflected in the interior design and the room graphics. Derived from school logo, the graphics vitalise the wall surfaces.
The colour assignment for floors and furniture as well as pictograms for the clear assignment of functions make orientation in the building a lot easier. Corridors and staircases are designed as extended learning rooms where communication and exchanges take place. The colouring concept of the wall design increases the quality of stay.
